Hot weather makes Annie want to
flee Arkansas. It looked like 2011 was shaping up to be hot, so we
decided to pack up Bubba and search for cooler climes. June 27th
proved to be a hot day. It was almost 93 degrees when we pulled
Bubba out of our driveway in Fayetteville heading for a Fleetwood (our
coach manufacturer) rally in Shawnee, OK. We didn't expect cooler
weather there and were not disappointed. The rally lasted 4 days and
we then headed to Oklahoma City to tour a bible exhibit. After that,
it was off to Dodge City, Kansas to visit with the Gunsmoke gang.
Just kidding! We linked up with Jerry's cousins from House Springs,
Missouri (just outside of St. Louis) at the Gunsmoke Trav-L-Park. After another overnight there
and a hot day, we headed out to Colorado to see some sites and find cooler
weather. As usual, Annie was the photographer and took 335 pictures
along the way. You get to see 49 of them. So, off we go. |

There are several Route 66
museums along the Mother Road. This one just happened to be in
Clinton, OK. |
|
If you are our age, the 1955
Chevy Bel Aire two-door hardtop V8 was the dream car of the day.
This one was beautifully restored. |
|
As part of the museum, they had
reproduced Pop Hicks' Route 66 diner from the old days. Obviously,
they didn't serve any food, but Jerry looks like he is ready to order. |
|
Don't know the date of this
menu, but the prices were right by today's standards. |

Here we are at Great Sand Dunes
in Colorado. This was our first real stop for tourism. You see
our cousings, Gaye and Jim Wolf for the first time. You get to see them more
later. |
|
The Great Sand Dunes are in
south central Colorado and quite a spectacle. These huge dunes of sand
just rise out of nowhere. Not much else to see there, but
probably worth the side trip if you are in the area. |
|
Ahh! Finally made it to
the mountains and some cooler weather. |
