Ahhhh - the great blue heron. What a beautiful bird!
The beach at Naples is absolutely beautiful - in fact, the entire city is beautiful!
People can always be seen fishing from the Naples pier.
Our first exposure to Everglades National Park was at Everglades City, in the Ten Thousand Islands area. There, we visited the Gulf Coast Visitor Center and went on a 4-hour guided canoe trip through a maze of mangrove islets. We learned that the mangrove tree is unique in that its aboveground roots can filter salt out of the water in which they thrive.
There were eight canoes in our group with all participants 55 or older. Don't think that this retirement is for the faint of heart!
One of three osprey nests we spotted. Look closely and you may see the beaks of the babies.
The anhinga is an interesting bird to watch. It dives for its food but doesn't have as much "oil" in its skin and feathers so it must spread its wings to dry out periodically. It's so funny to see them sunning!
