We were excited to be in the midst of the Alabama Hills where so many films were made.  We are particularly fond of westerns and many were made here.
A great view of Mt. Whitney with some of the Alabama Hills in the foreground.  Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48.
Some local pranksters painted this rock near the entrance of the Alabama Hills Rec Area.  Actually, there was a sign indicating John Wayne made a film in this very area.
The place we were hoping to find.  Movie Road traverses the Alabama Hills area and is the main artery for many, many side roads.
Many of the areas we saw were likely in some of the films we have seen over the years.
Imagine Clint Eastwood riding his horse down this dirt road.  The entire area was so easy to get to with some nice walking space around many of the rock formations.
Looks like a perfect place for a stage holdup to me.
The Sierra Nevada backdrop was a big drawing card for movie producers.  Imagine Forrest Tucker in his blue uniform commanding his soldiers from this redoubt while Shoshone Indians sneak up on them.
Looks like a good place for a cowboy shootout.  Plenty of rocks to hide behind.
