Fort Huachuca is an active army post about 20 miles north of the Mexican border. Here is a view of the Parade grounds. The Fort was established in 1877.
Fort Huachuca was home to the Buffalo Soldiers, the first African-American troops. Such a beautiful setting. These barracks are the original ones, just remodeled for modern use.
We toured the military museum on post. It, along with all of the original post buildings, are on the National Historic Register.
Museum exhibits depicted early military life in the southwest.
A sculpture commemorating the early Indian Scouts.
We stayed a couple of days at this wonderful Arizona State Park. It contains some of the most unspoiled underground caverns available for public viewing.
Photographs were prohibited in the Caverns, but at least we got one of the mountains above the Caverns and the campground where we stayed.
We have been waiting our entire lives to see the Saguaro cactus in its native environment.
