During our cruise on the Tenana and Chena Rivers, we stopped by the late Susan Butcher's home and kennels in Fairbanks. Susan was a four-time Iditarod champion.
The dogs are off on a summer training run pulling a four wheeler instead of a sled.
The training run is over and the team is huffing, puffing and ready to get out of the harness.
And go straight to the river for a dip and drink.
Our first sighting of a Bald Eagle, but not the last. Stay tuned.
This is a domesticated caribou, or as we know it, a reindeer. Bet you didn't know that.
Jerry petting one of the reindeer at the Athabascan Indian village we visited.
Admiring the cabbage crop. We thought they were whoppers until we visited the Tanana Valley State Fair.
The Athabascan Indians settled along the coastal regions of Alaska many years ago. Villages like this one still exist. Guides are giving us a little history lesson.
