Once we had settled into our campsite at Father Dyer National Forest Campground, we decided to make another run at Mosquito Pass.  This would be our third trip over the pass in recent years.  It is VERY steep and VERY rugged but the scenery is magnificent.  Yes, this is the road over which we traveled.  And if you think the photo is scary, you should be looking through our windshield!
The road to the summit seems to go on and on and on, higher and higher and higher.
At the summit, we are reminded of the difficult and faithful work of "Father" Dyer as he carried mail and gold over this pass in 1864.  He was a tough old coot!  Our favorite Forest Service campground is named for him.
It's always very windy and cold atop Mosquito Pass, as you can tell by the looks on Jerry's and Harley's faces.  Harley said, "Hurry up, Mama!:
Ahhhh . . . the view from the top.  The road over Mosquito Pass is the highest continuous road in Colorado that goes over a pass.
Looking down on one of the many old mining ruins in the high country.
And the road seems to go on forever.  It's so weird to see the moon-like landscape when you are above the timberline.
