Ann's Journal
California is a beautiful state but, after 5 months there, we were ready to move on. We were so happy to cross the Nevada state line that we had to stop and celebrate for a moment.

Unfortunately, we had a blowout about 100 miles north of Pahrump (in the middle of nowhere!) that did a lot of damage to the storage bay in front of the tire. We called our roadside assistance company and in around 2 hours, we were on the road again. With 50,000 miles on Bubba’s tires, we decided it was time for new ones. So, D & D Tires in Pahrump gained a new customer and "baby got new shoes". (For those of you who don’t live in Arkansas, there were a series of TV and radio ads a few years ago, sponsored by the anti-casino folks. In the ads, a young mother holding a baby tries to explain to her husband that he shouldn’t spend all their money gambling because, "Baby needs new shoes". That always struck us as funny and has stuck with us! Who says advertising doesn’t pay?)

We checked into one of our favorite campgrounds from the past, Terrible’s Lakeside RV Resort in Pahrump, and settled in for 10 days. Jerry flew back home for dental and doctors’ appointments and to attend a college fraternity reunion. Ann and Harley stayed behind and enjoyed the beauty of the campground. After a total of 10 nights there, we packed up and headed for Zion.

We had visited Zion in 2000 on one of our trips with Jerry’s mom, aunt and cousins. We were so taken with its beauty that we wanted to return. It was just as magnificent as we remembered. We took a couple of hikes, even though the temperatures reached 90 in the daytime, but there is no better way to experience Zion than on foot.

From Zion, we will head to Bryce.

Until next time, happy trails to you . . . til we meet again!
