We met our friends, Carl Lee and Cheryl Lane, in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 1 for three nights at the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort. Interestingly, this was the first time we’ve ever been to Las Vegas (and we’ve been there many times) that we didn’t gamble at all. We didn’t even put one quarter in a slot machine! We did have a couple of wonderful dinners while there including prime rib at Lawry’s, the folks who make Lawry’s seasonings, and Battista’s Italian Restaurant. We highly recommend both.

We said our goodbyes to Cheryl and Carl on Wednesday and traveled to Pahrump, NV where we spent five nights at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino and RV Resort. We planned our trip to include this resort as it is touted as one of the top campgrounds in the country. We totally agree. It is one of the prettiest campgrounds we’ve ever seen! Owned by the Terrible Herbst Corporation, it is an oasis in the desert – very green and lush – surrounding a seven acre lake. Linesteen particularly liked it as we were awarded one free night in the campground for every $25 we spent for gas at their gas station. Bubba easily held $100 worth so four nights in this oasis were free! And, for the fifth night, we used our Passport America membership to stay for half-price. Our total camping fees for five nights was $14 – nirvana! And there were lots of two-for-one coupons for food and beverages in the small casino and the food was great.

We attended a lovely Sunrise Service on Easter morning in Pahrump and stopped off at one of the downtown casinos for breakfast following the service. I couldn’t resist taking a photo of a woman playing the slots in her Easter bunny outfit, complete with ears. What a strange part of the world this is - one interesting note is that prostitution is still legal in parts of Nevada. How strange to see billboards advertising brothels!

Leaving Pahrump on Monday, April 9, we followed state highway 190 across the California border and into Death Valley. Destination: Lone Pine, CA where many, many westerns and other movies were made.\

Happy trails to you . . . ‘til we meet again!
