You can see the copper colors on the canyon walls.  That is why it is called the Copper Canyon.

Notice the abandoned telephone/telegraph lines.  This was the method of communication between engineers and dispatchers before the advent of radio communications.
As you would expect, rivers run through all of the seven canyons that make up the Copper Canyon.
