But Mom, it's so much fun!
I'll send you a postcard from Hong Kong, Dad!
In case you don't know . . . the Arkansas River's headwaters can be found near Leadville.
The Arkansas is a tiny, clear, beautiful "creek" as it begins its 1,469 mile journey through the states of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.  It is the sixth longest river in the U.S. and the 2nd longest tributary of the Mississippi.
While in Leadville, we drove "The Route of the Silver Kings" through the 20-square-mile historic mining district surrounding Leadville.  There were many relics along the route, including this old mine and mill, dating back 150 years.
The 4-wheel-drive trail over Mosquito Pass was the steepest road we've ever encountered on our back country experiences.  Yes, this is the road!
Imagine 6-horse teams, pulling loaded wagons, passing each other on this trail.  Yikes!
Another view of the climb to the top of Mosquito Pass, elev. 13,185.
