We took a day trip along the Flaming Gorge Scenic Byway which runs 28 miles around the southwestern corner of Flaming Gorge to the town of Manila. There were great views of Sheep Creek Bay and other parts of the gorge.
Parts of the route was through pine and aspen forests as well as open meadows.
We also drove the Sheep Creek Loop which runs through the sheer, rugged canyon walls of Sheep Creek Canyon.
Beautiful rock outcroppings were all around us.
And the colors of the rocks were vivid.  Unfortunately, it was cloudy the day we drove the loop so the photos don't do justice.
We followed Sheep Creek, then Hope Creek along the loop.  I couldn't resist snapping this photo of another creek emptying into the main creek.
This was among the most unusual rock formations we saw.  The rocks had literally been pushed up to a vertical position and there were many thin layers in each group.  Amazing!
