The Teddybear Cholla can grow up to 9 feet tall.  This one is getting close to the max size.

Beautiful blooms on a Joshua Tree.  You can tell the difference between a Joshua Tree and a Yucca plant by the width of the leaves.  Yuccas have wider leaves.
After we left Joshua Tree National Park we headed east to drive a few miles of old Route 66 in Arizona.  On the way we had to cross this desolate stretch of California desert.
Out in the middle of this desolate part of California we ran across a salt flat being commercially mined.
