A picture of Tucson as we passed through on the way to Yuma.  It certainly is a pretty town in a beautiful setting.
The old Yuma Territorial Prison.  It operated from 1876 to 1909.
Interestingly, the main guard tower was built on top of the water holding tank.  Water was pumped into the tank from the Colorado River below.
A view from the guard tower of what remains of the Colorado River.  Years ago, this particular area was the confluence of the Colorado and Gila Rivers and was known to flood.
Many parts of the Yuma Prison are gone.  However, this is the orignal "sally port" used as the entrance and exit from the prison.
The original and main cell block at Yuma Prison.  On the left were single cells for hardened criminals.  On the right were cells back to back for lesser criminals.
The original entrance into the old cell block.  Notice how thick the adobe walls are.
This is a view of the cells for lesser criminals.  Each cell was 6 feet by 7 feet and housed six prisoners.  This view shows two cells back to back. They originally were separated by bars.
