On the road back from Dyea, we stopped at an overlook.  Like most of Alaska, Skagway's setting is unbelievable.  Up to five cruise ships a day dock here during the summer months.
We took a three-hour train ride on the White Pass & Yukon to the US/Canadian border.  The tracks roughly parallel the original foot trail from Skagway to Lake Bennett.
The train climbs from sea level to almost 2,900 feet in less than 21 miles, providing spectacular views.
The US/Canadian border at White Pass.
Lake Bennett, not very wide but deep and 4 1/2 miles long, is where the Klondike gold seekers started their water trip to Dawson City.
Part of the original White Pass foot trail, also known as the Dead Horse Trail, because 3,000 horses died carrying supplies for the gold miners to the top.
Looking down main street Skagway late one evening at the Dawn Princess.  Impressive.
Carcross Desert, known as the smallest desert in the world, is just south of Whitehorse, YT.
On the trip back down the Alaska Highway, we finally spotted a moose that could be photographed.  These beasts are camera shy.
