Fish wheels are used by the natives to scoop up Salmon as the swim upstream to their spawning grounds.  The wheel is water powered and can scoop up hundreds of fish a day when the salmon are running.
Ann captured this beautiful sunset from our campground in Haines, Alaska on our first night there.
You are looking at old Fort Seward in Haines.  It is no longer an active fort, but you can see the old officers' homes all in a neat row.  They are now private homes.
While in the Haines Hitch-Up Campground, a pleasant family from Georgia got their camper a little too close to Pearl as they were parking.  And you thought life on the road was easy!
Late one evening we went to the Chilkoot River to watch bears and saw this bald eagle fishing for salmon.
Soon, an old grizzly showed up for his evening meal.
Unfortunately for him, he was downstream from the fish weir and couldn't get to the easiest-to-catch fish.  Catch a glimpse of those claws.
So, he went about fishing and soon spotted his first catch.
Fresh salmon right out of the river.
