The paved road ends at Chitina which is 30 miles from the Richardson Highway. This picture shows the beginning of 60 miles of dirt road leading to McCarthy. Glad we chose to fly.
Heard of frost heaves? These are good old American frost heaves. Try driving a motorhome over these at 60 miles an hour!
And some equally good Canadian frost heaves - we call them "hitch-busters".
